Examples of effusion

  • Patients may present with diarrhea, edema, ascites, or pleural effusions.

  • By regression analysis the presence of a fenestrated patch was the major determinant in the reduction in the amount and duration of postoperative effusion.

  • Under the simplest conditions a single flow is produced, but if effusion continues once the first flow has ceased, a multiple flow field may develop.

  • However, the results for pneumonia, neoplasm, and pleural effusion without congestive heart failure were not as strong.

  • Other abnormalities were: patent ductus arteriosus, septal hypertrophy, mitral valve prolapse and pericardial effusion (one case each).

  • Multiple flows are associated with a decrease in effusion rate, and new effusive episodes, starting with single flows, show increased effusion rates.

  • Subsequent lavas were less voluminous, with higher silica content and lower effusion rate, forming multiple flows.

  • Two patients had bilateral pleural effusions that resolved during the in-hospital period and one a left pneumothorax without consequences.
