He told them that he made the comments sarcastically.
"Well, congratulations," she said sarcastically.
He would only use sentences like (1b) "to imitate (probably sarcastically) a high-falutin' style (or, more likely, to mock such a speaker)" (p. 24).
One or two persons have argued sarcastically that in order to avoid accidents in mines we ought to close down the pits.
I use that expression not sarcastically, but enviously.
I write to him, and he writes back to thank me—rather sarcastically, usually—for taking an interest in my constituents' lives.
I do not say this sarcastically.
