0 inflammation of the oesophagus (= the tube that takes food from the mouth to the stomach):
Pain on swallowing may be due to severe oesophagitis.
Patients with symptomatic reflux but no evidence of oesophagitis have recently been labelled as having non-erosive reflux disease.
If this fails, an endoscopy is indicated to evaluate if oesophagitis is present.
