• There were up to eight larval instars, especially on shallot and lady's finger, while sixth larval instars occurred on all host plants (fig. 1).

• At the seventh and eighth instars, development was found to be at the same rate on lady's finger and shallot (table 1).

• However, the fifth instar larvae fed on lady's finger developed faster than those fed on shallot.

• In contrast, mean larval duration was 14 days longer on shallot and lady's finger than on long bean.

• Served with hard-boiled eggs, slices of fried potatoes, celery leaves, and fried shallots.
