Exempel på shale

• About 50 specimens, mostly proximal ends, preserved in partial relief on two small pieces of shale.

• Reefs have been exhumed by erosion of overlying shales.

• Fragments of shale and chert are indicative of parent material of lower regional metamorphism than the gneissic fragments.

• Subsequent abrupt deepening led to deposition of a thick black shale unit, turbidite deposits and large-scale submarine channel-fill deposits.

• Bioturbation is abundant in the shale as both horizontal and vertical exichnial traces.

• In analogy with impact heating, the target (in this case the shale) was not progressively heated but heated relatively rapidly.

• The stippled bands represent the lower and upper black shales.

• Most likely the organic matter is derived from the carbon- and uranium-rich bituminous shale of the target.

• Thus, during preparation the shale projectiles used were worked into near spherical shape.

• The necromass concentrations of all nutrients on sandstone were lower than on shale.

• The lower member (max. c. 600 m) is composed mainly of thick clay shales interbedded with thin sandy limestone beds (packstones and wackestones).

• Many of the black shales exhibit few features optically due to their fine grain size.

• The latter was described as "massive sandstones and conglomerates with interbedded sandy shales which are of continental origin".

• The abundance of shales in the central lake deposits shows a low-energy depositional setting.
