An achkan has only one breast pocket on the left side whereas a sherwani will have two breast pockets, left and right.
The bridegroom is usually dressed in a gold achkan, with an orange turban and a churidar or jodhpurs with jootis.
It can be distinguished from the achkan by the fact that it is often made from heavier suiting fabrics, and by the presence of a lining.
