0 a Japanese way of running a company by always trying to improve the way people work and what they do
1 a management system developed in Japan, based on the idea that employees should be involved in continually improving products, services, etc. to make the company as successful as possible:
Workers are expected to adopt a policy of `kaizen', which is the practice of continually seeking improvement.
A kaizen blitz, or rapid improvement, is a focused activity on a particular process or activity.
Kaizen is based on all employees involvement and individual activities generally reach an improvement of less than 20%.
Prior to kaizen costing, when the products are under development phase, target costing is applied.
Following these principles, work processes are redesigned to eliminate waste (muda) through the process of continuous improvement kaizen.
It is similar to the idea of kaizen which focuses on one process.
The format for kaizen can be individual, suggestion system, small group, or large group.
The process owner is continually involved with the operational managers and process operators as they use kaizen to continually improve the process as they are performing the work.
Kaizen teams are based in every department.
