The sudden and unexpected display of parental fright is supposed to be frightening for the infant who is unaware of its cause.
Afterwards, it may 'follow' some invisible object in its cage and even 'attack' it, or it may display rage behaviour, or fright.
The latter takes very seriously the idea that the fright indeed has a cause.
