At an unknown date a section of the stream was lined with slate and a wood-framed dunny or latrine built over it to provide toilet facilities with constant running water.
The dunny-cans are emptied by helicopter.
In built up areas it was unhygienic to rely on cesspits and the usual arrangement was for waste to be collected in a can placed under the dunny.
