I can tell him that there is not sufficient soft-soap in the world for that purpose.
We do not want to soft-soap them or to make their life easy—indeed, they do not want that.
This is not some woolly, liberal, soft-soap measure that has come out of some enlightened working party; there is no possibility of caricaturing the proposal in that way.
