• Controlled deposition of lipid monolayers and bilayers onto mica and direct force measurements between galactolipid bilayers in aqueous-solutions.

• The larger modelled upper continental crust component is also consistent with the relative abundance of detrital mica of possible extra-basinal origin.

• The siltstones commonly contain detrital white mica flakes that are generally lacking in the sandstones, and are possibly of distal continental origin.
