To reduce the risk of error of measurement due to undetected eye movements, we preferentially sampled cells with receptive field outside the area centralis.
The size and location of single and multiunit receptive fields were plotted in azimuth and elevation relative to the area centralis.
As no significant spatial gradients were detected for these cells at these ages, no attempt was made to define an area centralis or visual streak.
The ventral-temporal retinal location of the zebrafish area centralis serves to enhance vision in the upper-frontal visual space.
This area is also referred to as the fovea centralis.
We plotted and projected retinal landmarks, including the optic disk and area centralis, onto the tangent screen.
In the cat, it coincides with the area centralis.
The highest densities of neurones in the ganglion cell layer were in temporal retina but no well-defined area centralis was observed.
