There is a souk bus station with buses daily to most major cities.
The main thoroughfare of the souk carries mainly household goods, shoes and ready-made garments.
The city is filled with restaurants, various shops and stores and three gas stations as well as a weekly souk or open-air market.
A shop at the souk sells tagines cooked over kanounes (cauldrons).
Property damage included the destruction of 115 shops, two "souks", including several villas.
To avoid such disaster, the souk khouan ritual (calling back the souls) is organised and family, friends and neighbours invited.
Given the valuable items it sells, it is the only souk whose doors are closed and guarded during the night.
The souks are home to more than 200 shops, a department store, and a handful of cafes and restaurants.
