Six new transportable radars have now been delivered and preparation of new command and control systems is under way.
They are fitted with the latest air- and surface-warning radars.
They include the most sophisticated computer-controlled design equipment and machine tools, simulators, air traffic control radars, radio beacons, instrument landing systems—a vast range of items.
Development of stage 1 of the two-stage improvement programme has now been completed and modification of in-service radars is well under way.
The new radars are operational; work is continuing on the computer system.
Evaluation of the two alternative tracker radars is taking rather longer than anticipated.
Future plans for surveillance radars will not be settled before next year.
Radars to an interim standard have already been delivered.
