The guillemot nests in the cliffs, while the auk mostly prefers deep cracks underneath the cliffs.
Many varieties of sea birds and waterfowl also call it home, including seagulls, cormorants, willets, sandpipers, oystercatchers, guillemots and many others.
Those included 1,818 dead common scoters and 1,416 dead auks, predominantly guillemots or razorbills.
Puffins, razorbills, guillemots and birds of that type have their feathers clogged with oil while swimming and can neither swim nor fly.
Over 200 species of bird have been recorded in the area including black guillemot, eider, peregrine falcon and the golden eagle.
On the west coast is a guillemot colony.
There are also many varieties of seabird including cormorants, guillemots and herons.
I am told on inquiry that three species of the auk—the guillemot, the razor-bill and the puffin—have suffered much.
