There were up to eight larval instars, especially on shallot and lady's finger, while sixth larval instars occurred on all host plants (fig. 1).
At the seventh and eighth instars, development was found to be at the same rate on lady's finger and shallot (table 1).
However, the fifth instar larvae fed on lady's finger developed faster than those fed on shallot.
In contrast, mean larval duration was 14 days longer on shallot and lady's finger than on long bean.
Fresh strawberries, dry-bulb onions and shallots have three such rates; and fresh or chilled tomatoes are accorded nine different rates.
It is garnished with cooked squid, prawn fritters, boiled egg and fried shallots.
In the cooked variety, pounded chilis, shallots and lemongrass are stir-fried with anchovies, tempoyak and turmeric leaf (for aroma).
It is served with sliced fresh shallots (small red onion), pepper, and sweet soy sauce.
