I am pleased to say that swans are there again.
I have seen as many as sixty swans together in one place.
Unfortunately, swans grovel around for their grit and are likely to pick up anglers' weights.
The oil then escaped from the barge, caused extensive pollution of the river and considerable loss and suffering among the swans.
The cull of swans has never been anything but the limiting of the number of eggs in swans' nests.
I have also heard of how the herbicides and insecticides used by modern farmers cause death among swans that wander from the river bank.
Swans are unlike mammals in that they do not have teeth.
I learn too, of the death of three swans also in the town stretch, and that a fourth is not expected to recover.
