• Daily fecundity (number of nymphs produced per adult per day) varied with time for both aphid species and in each experiment (fig. 2).

• All ticks attached were counted, and all nymphs and adults were collected into tubes with damp paper and transported live to the laboratory.

• Twenty-four hours later, the plants were checked to see if the founding aphid had settled and any nymphs produced were counted.

• The clear age structures of these populations are corroborating evidence of two separate cohorts of both nymphs and adults (fig. 2).

• The effect between treatments was dramatic, with no nymphs found on control trees (table 3).

• The majority of larvae moult to nymphs that overwinter as flat nymphs.

• Mortality of nymphs in all other treatments was less than 7%.

• Approximately 12 weeks were spanned from the time that the first nymphs and then first adults were collected.
