• The local destabilization of a finger occurs by a splitting of its tip and results in the formation of two branches separated by a fjord.

• He succeeded in piloting the ship into an unfamiliar fjord and signalled for assistance.

• Evidently, in all these cases the fjords cannot be compared to the normal trajectories to the symmetrical finger.

• For this reason, we tried to generalize the procedure and to identify the central lines of the fjord with a virtual wall.
