• Common species of vegetables cultivated on the plots were tomato, spinach, potato, sweet potato and chillies.

• At the sixth instar, there was no difference in the development time of the larvae for all host plants (excluding chilli).

• Egg survival averaged 99.5%, and survival to adulthood from the pupal stage was 100% regardless of host plant (excluding chilli) (fig. 3).

• Furthermore, their first instar larval development time on chilli was shorter compared to this study.

• The present study also showed the same phenomenon, larval survival ranging from 0% on chilli to 100% on long bean.

• However, on chilli none of the 40 individuals were able to complete their life cycle.
