It seems to me that this is an attempt to tidy up and make things shipshape all round.
They have a drink of brandy with the skipper, presumably, who has made everything shipshape in anticipation of the visit.
Fortunately, for the child and for me, the car was less than a month old, so its brakes and tyres were shipshape.
My experience is that those occasions would be where the title is in perfect shipshape order and the lease is an admirable document.
