It is worrying that many parts of our society are underachieving.
Boys who have no contact with their fathers are more likely to underachieve at school.
Yet in all those markets we are seriously underachieving.
It is still the case that far too many young people and adults underachieve.
That message has to be understood by those who underachieve at school and by those who teach them.
It is too simple to say that schools are at fault if children underachieve, as there are clearly other factors involved.
Targets are there to be hit, but, sometimes, underachieving does not mean that we are not making progress.
We condemn her for underachieving in school, but we should condemn ourselves for allowing her to live in such conditions.
