Rufous-bellied kookaburras are smaller than other kookaburra species at around 143g oz as against the laughing kookaburra's 335g oz and about 28cm in as against the laughing kookaburras 46cm in.
In 1999 the maroon and silver livery was removed and the train was repainted in a new grey and silver scheme, with a new kookaburra logo graphic.
The largest and most atypical bill is that of the shovel-billed kookaburra, which is used to dig through the forest floor in search of prey.
Compared to the related laughing kookaburra, it is smaller, lacks a dark mask, has more blue in the wing, and striking white eye.
