Beware of scapholunate injuries in radial styloid fractures where the fracture line exits distally at the scapholunate interval.
It is a fibrous band passing from the styloid process of the ulna to the dorsal aspect of the carpal bones.
Symptoms tend to be worsened on bimanual palpation of the styloid through the tonsillar bed.
The index finger is placed below the wrist bone on the thumb side of the hand (radial styloid).
The direct arm attaches to the posterior and lateral aspect of the fibular styloid.
Ulnar styloid fractures seldom require treatment when they occur in association with a distal radius fracture.
About the fourth year, a center appears in the middle of the head, and soon extends into the ulnar styloid process.
There are several established instability criteria: dorsal tilt 20, comminuted fracture, abruption of the ulnar styloid process, intraarticular displacement 1mm, loss of radial height 2mm.
