We used computer-generated simple animations with two shapes that suggested neither ' body ' nor ' face ' nor any other biologically relevant morphological feature.
Each of them proposed a graphic approach towards musical analysis: animations were used to provide a better understanding of the musical notions revealed by analysis.
The authors concluded that the use of animations increases the efficiency of g rammar noticing and lear ning.
Subsequently, the exper imental g roup participated in g rammar tutor ials, which were based on computer animations.
The results indicate that the computer animations had a positive lear ning effect and helped students to memor ise infor mation better.
In the end, the composition is a successful application of the metaphor, providing promise for future developments - especially linking visual particle animations with the sound.
The other nine animations were designed to assess the expression of sequentiality, and so were not used in the current study.
