Feeding flocks may consist of a breeding pair or small family group and have been observed mixing with black ibises.
Unlike other ibises they have a short neck.
Natural predators include wading birds, such as reef egrets, white-faced herons, white ibises and swamp harriers.
Many other bird species can also be found here including herons, loons, ibises, ducks, geese, hawks and terns to name but a few.
During the breeding season, adult male ibises have been recorded raiding other parent ibises who are feeding their young in the colony.
Ibises are also found in drier areas, including landfills.
Scarlet ibises like wet, muddy areas such as swamps, but for safety they build their nests in trees well above the water.
Other than coastal erosion, scientist have found little at the park to threaten the herons, ibises, and egrets.
