Cesium in the intracellular solution blocks potassium channels like delayed rectifier and inactivating potassium channels.
Intracellular cesium separates two glutamate conductances in retinal bipolar cells of goldfish.
Potassium was used in place of cesium so that current-clamp recordings could be made, but current-clamp data is not presented here.
Extracellular cesium ions alone blocked the inward current but exerted no effect on the photoresponses.
Then, we broke through the membrane with a cesium methanesulfonate-based internal solution.
The inward rectification was eliminated by extracellular cesium (data not shown).
Unfortunately, these upland soils are very thin and not suited to locking away the cesium.
